Class 6 Assignment 2: Blog Sidebar

The second part of this assignment screenshot shows names of every classmates in the link format that brings me to each of classmates' blog. At first, I had hard time setting up the sidebar and I had to play with its functions and various features until I figured out by configuring link list. I personally find it very useful to visit my classmates' blog.

These screenshots are each of our member's google docs post including my posts as well and shows my revision and my other teammates' revisions for the each report. Only post that I was not aware of was Helena's post about affective computing and I found it very interesting. I have also included some images from searching affective computing. 

When most of our group members met in Google Hangout, we could not find out how to embed Google Doc to Google Hangout. Since it was instructed to use Google Doc to collaborate with group members through using Google Hangout, we have researched the steps and process. However, we could not find Google Drive application in its interface and could not able to open up Google Doc. Thus our team decided to post each of their own doc posts and do it separately while labeled color accordingly to each members.

Google Hangout Team 4 Research

Google Hangout is a communication software developed by Google. Google Hangout seems to have almost identical features with Skype. The features include Video Chat, Voice Calling, Instant Messaging, Phone Call, and more. Interesting fact is that user can perform a group video chat with up to 10 users at a time. These are all functions provided by Skype. However, important thing to note is that Google hangout can use the resources within Google’s ecosystem. Google is a versatile software that has Email, Cloud Service, Transaction Service, and more. We can all retrieve and sync Hangout with these resources, which makes Google hangout preferable to Skype.

Everyone in my team met smoothly without any trouble getting into Google Hangouts. It was my first time using Google Hangout and I think I need to play with it to understand all the features. 

Also our team discussed about our group name and we decided to call it "Bad Boys of Boston".

Immersive Illness?

A challenge that concerns me the most is lurking on the horizon, one we don't yet understand the full scope of. As Immersive Education and other forms of personal virtual reality become more realistic and compelling we're going to see "immersive illness" become more common and more difficult to deal with. Although this is an issue today we're somewhat protected by the limitations of today's personal computers and game consoles (they just aren't powerful enough...yet), but in another decade or more it'll be a different story altogether. Nobody knows exactly what impact insanely realistic, media-rich virtual reality will have on society. We're already dealing with early forms of immersive illness, such as addiction, alienation, mental schisms, and more, but today it's not a problem that affects a large percentage of users. We don't see massive problems today for a number of reasons, including rather low-quality virtual environments and limitations on how much time we spend in these environments. But what happens when the visual and audio quality becomes indistinguishable from reality, the technology becomes truly mainstream, and a substantial portion of education takes place in such environments and not in a real classroom? With massive power comes massive problems. Last week I was asked how big this problem will be, and I responded that nobody knows for sure but I'd estimate that the at-risk population can be calculate by adding the percentage of people with addiction problems to the percentage of society that suffer some form of mental illness. That's a big chunk of society. Is it all gloom and doom? Certainly not, but it's a grand challenge we're not even remotely prepared for today. As with other disruptions society will eventually adapt, but I think we're in for a very rough ride.

As far as what I understand about the virtual reality is that I think this technology will only improve our life styles in the near future. This not only enhance the visual effects, but also influence user's experiences in virtual taste, sight, smell, sound, and touch.

However, I also think that there could be a problem with addiction if the user gets really deep into playing game just like the game addiction exists in nowadays. Moreover, since the user's experience will become more virtually realistic, it is possible to make user more addicted to it.

I took sreenshots of revising my previous reports (VR, Google Glass, Oculus Rift, and 3D Printing) in Google Docs. First, I deleted all the photos and videos and pasted on the Google Docs. Then I checked any spelling errors or alignments and fonts to be organized accordingly with each reports. Also, I researched more information with reference links included in the bottom of the reports.
